This Nintendo Switch release calendar will destroy your wallet

When the Nintendo Switch 2 hit shelves, plenty of people assumed the original hybrid console would fade into the sunset pretty quickly. That changed after the latest Nintendo Direct. The presentation made one thing crystal clear: both consoles aren’t going anywhere, and Nintendo’s committed to keeping them both relevant with solid releases throughout the year.

You probably remember the past few months brought some heavy hitters like Pokémon Legends Z-A, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, Kirby Air Riders, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The momentum isn’t slowing down. Actually, 2026’s looking seriously promising for Nintendo fans on both platforms.

There’s definitely breathing room in this calendar, and Nintendo knows how to fill gaps. The early months are absolutely packed, especially February with that triple Resident Evil drop, while later in the year things open up for potential surprises.

What’s still missing from the picture

Rumors have been circulating about Metroid Prime 2 Remastered, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Star Fox Zero potentially making the jump to these platforms. None of that materialized in recent announcements, but there’s still plenty of time for Nintendo to surprise everyone.

The reality is we’ll just have to wait and see what announcements drop over the coming months. Nintendo’s playing the long game here, building a library strong enough to make both Switch consoles absolute powerhouses in 2026.
