Xbox’s Halo franchise officially comes to PlayStation

Microsoft confirms the legendary series will be permanently available on PS5

Yesterday marked a historic moment for veterans who witnessed the birth of Master Chief. Microsoft revealed that Halo: CE will receive a remake scheduled for 2026, available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and—breaking decades of exclusivity—PlayStation 5. While Microsoft’s new multiplatform strategy had already hinted at this strategic shift, bringing Halo into Sony’s ecosystem is revolutionary considering that just two years ago it seemed like a remote possibility. The industry landscape transforms at a breakneck pace.

PlayStation becomes Halo’s permanent home

Halo’s arrival on PS5 goes beyond a one-time release. During the Halo World Championship, Community Director Brian ‘ske7ch’ Jarrard made it clear that “Halo will continue on PlayStation going forward, starting with Halo: Campaign Evolved.” The announcement was accompanied by a post on PlayStation’s official blog, closing with an iconic message from Master Chief himself: “I think we’re just getting started.”

Jarrard expressed his excitement about this milestone: “Today’s announcement is one I’ll never forget. Halo is coming to PlayStation. From the beginning, we wanted to create a world with stories and experiences that brought people together. And now, for the first time, PS5 players will be able to be part of that journey.” The community response has been overwhelmingly positive, reflected in YouTube metrics where the trailer on PlayStation’s channel exceeds 502K views—nearly ten times the 55K registered on Xbox’s channel.

Halo Campaign Evolved

A remake built from the ground up with new technology

Beyond the media impact, Halo: Campaign Evolved emerges as a project with its own vision. Developed on Unreal Engine 5, the title promises a campaign that respects the original essence while updating it for the modern era. Players will experience a revamped visual design, completely new cinematics, remastered audio, and enhanced gameplay mechanics that incorporate sprint. On the narrative front, the remake introduces three prequel missions featuring Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson as protagonists, expanding the backstory leading up to Combat Evolved’s events.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is scheduled to launch in 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and will be available on day one through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. While full details will be revealed soon, this decision sets a clear precedent: future franchise titles—including additional remakes, the sequel to Halo Infinite, and potential ambitious multiplayer projects—will also come to PlayStation 5.
