Terraria 1.4.5 drops January 27 with Dead Cells and Palworld crossovers

Re-Logic's first major update in three years brings massive crossovers, hundreds of new items, and a refreshing anti-crunch philosophy

Re-Logic confirmed on January 14 that Terraria’s long-awaited 1.4.5 update will launch on January 27 across all platforms, marking the first major patch in over three years since version 1.4.4 dropped back in September 2022.

The update brings crossover content from Dead Cells and Palworld, along with hundreds of new items and gameplay features for PC (Steam), Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Android, and iOS.

The crossover content that’s breaking the internet

The collaboration with Dead Cells introduces several iconic items from Motion Twin’s beloved roguelike, including outfits, weapons, and runes that fans can integrate into their Terraria builds.

Palworld joins the party with a Digtoise, a mining companion that’s got the community buzzing about whether it’ll function as a pet or something entirely different.

Re-Logic has been tight-lipped on the details, but the crossover alone has players hyped for what other surprises might be hiding in the patch notes.

What else is packed into this update

Beyond the crossovers, the 1.4.5 update is massive. We’re talking hundreds of brand-new items, expanded functionalities for existing content, and tweaks across the board.

New weapon types like whips and spears are joining the arsenal, alongside fresh brick and wall varieties for builders. One standout feature is the musical blocks that play assigned notes, opening up creative possibilities for music-making within the game.

Several new mounts and furniture pieces round out the additions, though Re-Logic has hinted that the full patch notes on January 27 will reveal even more content developed over these three years.

Why the delay was worth it

In their December State of the Game update, Re-Logic explained they initially aimed for a 2025 release but needed extra time to coordinate with global partners handling localization and platform adaptation, especially in Asian territories.

With the holidays in full swing, the team refused to force developers into overtime. “We have also always been VERY anti-crunch as a company, so we were never going to ask people to work insane hours and weekends to try and shave a few days“, they stated.

That anti-crunch stance might’ve pushed the update into 2026, but it’s a refreshing reminder that some studios still prioritize their teams over arbitrary deadlines.
