Hypixel Studios is rolling out Hytale’s first substantial update today and if you’ve been craving prehistoric creatures in your voxel sandbox adventures, you’re in luck.
Since launching into early access on January 13, Hytale has received minor bug fixes and tweaks, but this weekend’s patch marks the game’s first major content drop.
Hypixel Studios founder Simon Collins-Laflamme took to X to tease what’s coming, and the headline feature is undeniably cool: dinosaurs are joining the underground jungles beneath Zone 4, adding new life to the game’s volcanic endgame areas.
New creatures and QoL changes
Beyond prehistoric creatures stomping into the game, the update addresses player feedback with practical improvements. One standout addition is dual-wielding torches, a feature that sounds simple but makes underground exploration significantly more manageable when you’re trying to light your path while keeping a weapon ready.
Collins-Laflamme also revealed changes to mining sound effects, responding to complaints he himself voiced days earlier on social media. The studio is clearly listening, mining felt off, players agreed, and now it’s getting fixed. It’s this kind of rapid iteration that early access is meant for, and Hypixel Studios seems committed to maintaining that momentum.

The full patch notes weren’t available at the time of writing, but Collins-Laflamme acknowledged the delay, admitting that compiling comprehensive patch notes has become a bottleneck.
Writing even the initial notes took the team “several hours,” and with so much development work ongoing, future updates may ship with abbreviated documentation that gets fleshed out over time.
What’s coming after this weekend
Looking ahead, Hypixel Studios has teased upcoming features arriving in the days following this patch.
Players will soon be able to save custom avatars and load preconfigured ones, hide helmets via server-configurable settings, view detailed weapon descriptions including damage-per-second stats, and place markers on the in-game map. Collins-Laflamme hinted there’s “much more” beyond these additions.
We already have few updates lined up for the coming days!

Hytale’s early access launch has been a wild ride. The sandbox adventure game from Hypixel Studios nearly didn’t happen after Riot Games cancelled the project in mid-2025, but Collins-Laflamme reacquired the rights in November and rallied a 50-person team to revive it.
The game launched with a reported 2.8 million concurrent players, smashing the studio’s initial expectations of around one million and becoming the most-watched game on Twitch with over 420,000 viewers.
This Saturday’s update feels like proof that Hytale isn’t just surviving early access, it’s evolving fast.
