TOHO animation released the main promotional trailer for Sousou no Frieren’s second season today, revealing that Mrs. GREEN APPLE will perform the opening theme titled “lulu”.
The journey toward Ende continues with fresh music and a reshuffled creative team ready to bring Frieren’s story back to screens.
The trailer confirms the series premieres January 16 on NTV’s “Friday Anime Night” block, with international streaming secured through Crunchyroll.
Fans also got word that legendary voice actor Kazuhiko Inoue joins the cast to voice the Southern Hero, adding serious star power to an already stacked lineup.
New music and voice cast additions
While studio Madhouse returns to handle animation and composer Evan Call comes back for the soundtrack, the musical landscape gets a refresh. Mrs. GREEN APPLE takes over opening duties with “lulu”, marking their entry into the Frieren universe.
On the closing side, singer milet returns to the franchise after her work on season one, this time delivering the ending theme “The Story of Us”. Her comeback feels like a natural fit given how her voice captured the melancholic vibe of Frieren’s first run.
Creative team shake-up
Behind the scenes, there’s been some significant shuffling. Tomoya Kitagawa steps up as the main director, with Keiichirō Saitō, who helmed season one, now listed under “directorial support”.
Character design shifts to a team effort featuring Takasemaru (the artist name of Akiko Takase, known for Violet Evergarden), alongside Keisuke Kojima and Yuri Fujinaka. These changes signal a fresh perspective while keeping the core production quality fans expect.
The original manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe has been on indefinite hiatus since October 2025 due to the authors’ health, though its popularity remains untouched with over 30 million copies in circulation.
The story follows elf mage Frieren who, after defeating the Demon King, embarks on an introspective journey to understand humans and the passage of time.
