AdHoc Studio revealed they feared Aaron Paul might never work with them again after the extensive development process of Dispatch, the narrative superhero adventure that became one of 2025’s biggest surprises.
The Breaking Bad star spent two years being called back repeatedly for the project, leading the creative team to worry they’d exhausted his patience.
The making of a gaming marathon
Dispatch emerged as a standout Telltale-style narrative adventure praised for its stunning audiovisual presentation, compelling storyline, and memorable characters.
Behind the scenes, however, the production tested everyone’s limits, especially Paul’s. Narrative director Pierre Shorett explained to Eurogamer:
“We worried he’d never want to work with us again because of how long development took. It was torture. We’d call him after 8 weeks of silence saying ‘we need you for 4 hours,’ and he’d be like ‘fuck, I thought I was done with this’“.
The team kept reaching out to Paul for two years straight, and game director Nick Herman believes if the actor had known the scope upfront, “he probably wouldn’t have taken the job.” Shorett agreed completely: “He would’ve said no for sure. Absolutely.” The reason? Paul essentially IS the game, carrying the entire production on his shoulders as the protagonist.
When commitment meets passion
Despite the grueling schedule, Paul remained fully committed. Shorett credits Paul’s positive response to the script as the driving force behind his dedication throughout production.
“Thank God, because at this point I don’t know what the game would’ve been without him“, Shorett admitted.
The payoff came after Dispatch’s launch when Shorett reconnected with Paul. The actor shared something significant: people in France were recognizing him on the street not for Breaking Bad, but for Dispatch.
Fans approached him enthusiastically about the game and his performance, marking a rare shift from the typical Walter White conversations that usually dominate his public interactions.
Dispatch is currently available on PC and PlayStation 5, with Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions launching later this month.
