PayPal and Microsoft officially launched Copilot Checkout today, and it’s exactly what it sounds like: you can now shop, chat, and buy stuff without ever leaving your conversation with Copilot.
No more opening fifteen tabs, comparing prices across sites, or abandoning your cart because the checkout process felt like filing taxes. The integration brings PayPal’s payment system directly into Microsoft’s AI assistant, handling everything from product discovery to the actual purchase, starting with Copilot.com.
It’s shopping that finally works the way we’ve always wanted it to, fast, conversational, and ridiculously convenient.
Here’s the wild part: Microsoft’s internal data shows that shopping journeys involving Copilot lead to 53% more purchases within 30 minutes compared to regular browsing.

When people are already thinking about buying something, conversion rates jump 194% higher. Translation? People are way more likely to actually hit “buy” when an AI handles the annoying parts. The feature launches with heavy hitters like PayPal, Shopify, Stripe, and Etsy on board, bringing brands like Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, and Ashley Furniture into the mix.
Shopify merchants get automatically enrolled after an opt-out window, which is a smart move, it gives retailers control instead of forcing them in like Amazon’s controversial approach that pissed off hundreds of businesses last year.
The battle for your wallet just got real
Microsoft isn’t alone in this race. OpenAI launched Instant Checkout in ChatGPT last September, Google dropped its own checkout integration in November 2025, and even payment giants like Visa and Mastercard are jumping in with commercial transactions expected this quarter.
The difference?
Microsoft isn’t trying to become Amazon. They’re not competing with retailers or building their own marketplace, they’re just providing the infrastructure. That’s a huge advantage when convincing stores to trust them with customer relationships.
Adobe data shows AI shopping traffic exploded 693% during the 2025 holiday season, so this isn’t some futuristic concept anymore. It’s happening right now, and the companies building the best checkout experiences are about to win big.

No more browser tab nightmares
Imagine asking Copilot, “I need a new couch for my apartment”, and instead of getting a list of links, you get actual recommendations based on your style, budget, and space. You can compare options, ask follow-up questions, and complete the purchase without opening a single browser tab.
PayPal handles the payment security, merchants keep control of fulfillment and customer service, and you get your couch delivered without the usual headache of modern online shopping. Kyle Dorcas from Ashley Furniture called it “the next evolution of furniture retail”, which sounds like corporate speak, but he’s not wrong.
The gap between “I want this” and “I bought this” just got a lot smaller, and that changes everything about how we shop online. Whether this becomes the standard or just another tech experiment remains to be seen, but Microsoft and PayPal are betting heavily that the future of shopping happens inside conversations, not websites.
