The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on PC looks better than ever

Fan-Made Native PC Port Twilight Princess: Courage Reborn Showcases 60fps Gameplay and Mods Already in the Works

The fan community has been waiting for this for years, and now it’s actually happening. A developer known as Linifadomra has been building a native PC port of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess from the ground up, and the results are turning heads across the gaming world. The project is called Twilight Princess: Courage Reborn, and after a first showcase uploaded on December 30, 2025, the most recent developer update has made it very clear that this thing is seriously close to the finish line.

The decompilation of the original GameCube version of Twilight Princess was completed in late 2025, and Linifadomra wasted no time jumping into the port. The latest video walks through the game’s Ordon Village introduction segment, which the team describes as completely crashless aside from a few occasional graphical tweaks.

The footage is sped up to cover more ground quickly, but the port will run at a native 60fps at normal speed. NPCs respond, combat works, and horseback riding on Epona is fully functional. For a project still recruiting developers, the level of stability on display is remarkable.

Courage Reborn does not include any of Nintendo’s proprietary assets. Players will need to provide their own copy of the original GameCube game to supply the executable with art and audio assets, which is the same approach taken by other fan-made decompilation ports like the Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask PC ports.

No release date has been set yet, as the team is still looking for additional developers to help push it across the finish line.

Mods are already here before the port even releases

One of the biggest advantages of a native PC port over emulation is what it opens up for the modding community, and the Twilight Princess fanbase is not wasting any time. A 4K texture mod is already being tested, with YouTuber Video Game Esoterica having been given a build to demonstrate it in action.

On top of that, Linkle, the female variant of Link originally introduced in Hyrule Warriors Legends, has already been modded into Courage Reborn before the port has even launched publicly.

Pre-release modding of this kind is almost unheard of, and it speaks to how deeply invested the Zelda community is in this project. The team has also confirmed support for keyboard and mouse controls alongside controllers, a customizable graphics options menu, and Mac and Linux compatibility in addition to Windows.

The plan is to eventually open source the project on GitHub, which will open the door for even more contributors and community-built improvements down the road.

Surprise: There are actually two Twilight Princess PC ports in development

Just when fans thought one native PC port was enough, a second one was announced. On April 12, 2026, a team made up of members from the Twilight Princess Decompilation team, the Twilight Princess speedrunning community, and the Aurora team Twilit Realm, released an announcement trailer for a separate port called Dusk.

The trailer, published on the Twilit Realm YouTube channel, showcases over three minutes of gameplay and cutscenes alongside a breakdown of the port’s planned improvements.

Dusk is targeting Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, with unlocked framerates up to 120fps. The fact that it includes mobile platforms means Twilight Princess could realistically be playable on a phone, which would have sounded completely outlandish back in 2006.

Despite being two entirely separate projects built by different teams, both Courage Reborn and Dusk have publicly expressed mutual support for each other, with no sign of rivalry or conflict between them. Fan reaction online has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic, with comments like “Ah yes, two separate PC ports. I love this community so much” summing up the mood pretty well.

Both ports are built on the same decompilation base but appear to be taking different directions. Courage Reborn is shaping up as a clean, faithful recreation optimized for modern hardware, while Dusk appears to lean more toward a customized experience with built-in mods and higher framerate targets. The comparison to the Ship of Harkinian and 2 Ship 2 Harkinian ports of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask has already come up in community discussions, and it’s a fair one.

Nintendo has not made any official announcement about bringing Twilight Princess to the Switch 2’s GameCube library, and there’s no confirmed timeline for that happening. In the meantime, two teams of volunteer developers are working to bring one of the most acclaimed games in the Zelda franchise to modern platforms, with 4K textures, unlocked framerates, full mod support, and no emulation in sight.

To stay updated on Courage Reborn, fans can join the Linifadomra Discord, where the team also shares news on other GameCube titles currently going through the same decompilation process, including The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

The twilight realm is coming to PC. It’s only a matter of time.
