The man who knows nothing about leaving fantasy worlds behind is officially declaring his love for the Wizarding World. Kit Harington, best known for wielding Longclaw as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, has made it crystal clear that he wants a spot in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series, and he’s not picky about what that spot looks like.
In a recent interview with Variety, Harington didn’t hold back when asked about joining the highly anticipated Harry Potter reboot. His response was refreshingly humble and enthusiastic. He told the outlet he’d be willing to take on any role, even if it meant being a background extra. That’s right, the former King in the North would happily stand in the back of a Hogwarts corridor if it meant being part of the magic.

Already in the Wizarding World
While Harington hasn’t been officially cast in the HBO series yet, he’s already dipping his toes into the Potter universe. The actor is currently voicing Gilderoy Lockhart in Audible’s new full-cast Harry Potter audiobook series, which launched last month with The Sorcerer’s Stone. Lockhart, the hilariously pompous and self-obsessed Defense Against the Dark Arts professor from Chamber of Secrets, was an easy yes for Kit Harington, who described the character as both entertaining and tragic.
The audiobook project features an impressive lineup of talent, including Matthew Macfadyen as Voldemort, Keira Knightley as Dolores Umbridge, and several of Harington’s Game of Thrones alumni like Mark Addy voicing Hagrid and Iwan Rheon as Professor Lupin.

A lifelong Potter nerd
What makes Harington’s enthusiasm even more genuine is his deep connection to the source material. He’s a self-described Harry Potter nerd who discovered the books at age 11, the same age as Harry himself, and has been hooked ever since. He even listens to Stephen Fry’s audiobook narrations every night, calling himself someone who knows the books like the back of his hand. His favorite? The Half-Blood Prince, though he did playfully call out Goblet of Fire for its questionable Triwizard Tournament logistics.
HBO’s Harry Potter series is expected to be a faithful, long-form adaptation with each season dedicated to one book. While casting details remain under wraps, fans are already speculating about which roles could fit established actors like Kit Harington. Whether he ends up as a professor, ministry official, or yes, even a background wizard at The Leaky Cauldron, one thing’s certain: Harington’s passion for the franchise is real.
