If you’ve been holding out on grabbing a Nintendo Switch 2 with the Mario Kart World bundle, you might want to act fast. According to a leaked internal memo from GameStop that surfaced earlier today, Nintendo has officially ended production of what many considered the best value proposition for the new console.
The memo doesn’t beat around the bush: “This bundle SKU has now reached end of lifecycle, and additional units will no longer be produced. Future replenishment of Nintendo Switch 2 will be the base console.” Translation? Once retailers clear their current stock, that’s it.
The deal that made sense
When the Switch 2 launched back in June, the Mario Kart World bundle felt like a no-brainer for most gamers. At $499, you were essentially getting the console and the game for $30 less than buying them separately. Considering Mario Kart World carries that controversial $80 price tag, saving thirty bucks was actually pretty sweet.
Nintendo did warn us this was a limited-time offer, but six months feels surprisingly short for such a popular bundle. The timing is particularly interesting given that we’re right in the middle of the holiday shopping season, when demand for these bundles typically peaks.
What this means for your wallet
Here’s where things get a bit concerning. The base Switch 2 console costs $449, and with the bundle gone, you’re looking at paying full price for Mario Kart World if you want both. That’s $529 total versus the $499 bundle price. Not exactly wallet-friendly, especially with component shortages potentially driving console prices up in 2026.
Some retailers like Best Buy are still offering the bundle at discounted prices, essentially making the game free, but these deals won’t last forever. The smart money says grab one while you can if you’ve been on the fence.
Nintendo hasn’t commented on what bundle might replace this one, though speculation points to Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch 2 Edition coming in January as a likely candidate. The Pokemon Legends: Z-A bundle is still available in limited quantities, but given how quickly the Mario Kart bundle sold, don’t expect that one to stick around much longer either.
