If you were among the fans screaming at the mid-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, wondering who was going to voice that pink hammer-swinging hedgehog, your wait is officially over.
Paramount has confirmed that Kristen Bell will voice Amy Rose in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, set to hit theaters on March 19, 2027. And honestly? The casting makes total sense.
Ben Schwartz couldn’t hide his excitement
The news broke through none other than Ben Schwartz himself, the voice of Sonic, who announced it on Instagram with all the energy you’d expect from the Blue Blur: “WE HAVE OUR AMY ROSE!!! And I could not be more excited!!! Please welcome the incredible @kristenanniebell to the @sonicmovie family!!!”

That kind of reaction from a castmate says a lot. Bell joins a franchise that has been stacking serious voice talent since day one, alongside Schwartz, Idris Elba as Knuckles, and Keanu Reeves as Shadow. Jeff Fowler, who directed all three previous films, is also back in the director’s chair.
A character finally getting the spotlight she deserves
Amy Rose has been part of the Sonic universe for over 30 years, first appearing in Sonic CD back in 1993. She’s fast, she wields her iconic Piko Piko Hammer, and she’s had a massive crush on Sonic since day one.
But in Sonic 3’s mid-credits scene, we saw a very different Amy, one who shows up to save Sonic from an army of Metal Sonics, not the other way around. That inversion alone tells you Paramount is taking the character seriously, and casting Kristen Bell, the woman who brought Anna to life in Frozen and has one of the most recognizable voices in Hollywood, signals they’re betting big on her.

The Sonic franchise has already crossed $1 billion at the global box office, with Sonic 3 alone pulling in over $490 million to become the highest-grossing entry in the series.
Adding Amy Rose to the mix, alongside the threat of Metal Sonic lurking from that post-credits tease, gives the fourth film plenty of directions to go. Bell brings warmth, humor, and real emotional range to every role she takes, exactly what a character like Amy needs to win over both longtime fans and casual moviegoers.
A natural fit for the franchise
This isn’t Bell’s first rodeo in a major animated franchise. Beyond Frozen, she voiced a sloth in Zootopia 2 and has built a reputation as one of the most reliable voice performers in the business.
The parallels between Anna and Amy are hard to ignore, both characters lead with their heart, bring comedic energy, and have a fierce, independent streak beneath the bubbly exterior. It’s a match that practically writes itself.
With Sonic 4 still over a year away, details on the actual plot remain under wraps, but between Bell’s casting and the Metal Sonic army teased at the end of the last film, there’s already a lot to be hyped about.
What do you think, is Kristen Bell the perfect Amy Rose, or did you have someone else in mind for the role? Drop your take in the comments, we want to know!
