Kidbash: Super Legend revives classic platforming

Indonesian indie studios blend Mega Man, Kirby, and Digimon World into one nostalgic roguelike that's already winning awards

Indonesian indie studios Authentic Remixes and Fat Raccoon won the Most Fun to Play Award at Indie X 2024 for Kidbash: Super Legend, a roguelike action-platformer that unapologetically wears its Mega Man X, Gunstar Heroes, and Kirby 64 influences on its sleeve.

The game has hit over 20,000 wishlists on Steam with the developers hoping for a 2026 release.

When forgotten heroes get a second chance

The game drops you into the O.D.D., a world where forgotten video game characters reside, playing as Kidbash, a hero suffering from amnesia who failed to save the village of Mandala from destruction.

Your mission? Climb the mountain to find the disappeared master Tao Shen Long while figuring out what it really means to be a hero. The setup might sound simple, but the execution is anything but.

Kidbash borrows Mega Man’s run-and-gun DNA but throws in Kirby 64’s crystal shard mechanic, fill up your meter by slaying enemies and you can fuse two weapons into something completely new.

Sword plus boxing glove? Go for it. Manual blaster with bombs? Why not. The developers even joke about it on Steam with a cheeky “totally not inspired by cough* Kirby 64 cough*” note. Players also unlock randomized mods that enhance platforming and combat, creating that addictive roguelike loop where each run feels fresh.

The game features a village-building component inspired by Digimon World on PS1. Between mountain runs, you return to rebuild Mandala, complete side quests, and strengthen your character before heading back up with better gear and upgrades.

The developers partnered up after creating Kidbash as a physical toy back in 2019, eventually deciding to bring the character into the gaming world.

Rising from indie obscurity

The developers participated in the Six One Indie Showcase in May 2025 and joined Indiecember with PirateSoftware for their first livestream interview event.

They also showcased the game at Tokyo Game Show 2024. With Xbox and PC confirmed as platforms and demo builds already impressing players at conventions, Kidbash: Super Legend is shaping up to be one of those indie gems that reminds us why we fell in love with platformers in the first place.
