Godzilla fans have something massive to look forward to in 2026. The popular “Godzilla Theater” screening series, which celebrated the franchise’s 70th anniversary, is making a comeback with newly restored 4K versions of four beloved Heisei-era films. If you missed these kaiju battles on the big screen the first time around, now’s your chance to experience them like never before.
Four monsters, four screening windows
The lineup kicks off on January 23-29 with “Godzilla vs. Mothra“, featuring the epic three-way showdown between Godzilla, Mothra, and the dark destroyer Battra. Then from February 20-26, theaters will unleash “Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla”, where Earth’s favorite monster faces off against his crystalline cosmic counterpart in what many fans consider one of the most visually striking entries in the series.
April brings two more heavy hitters. “Godzilla vs. Destoroyah” (April 3-9) delivers the emotional finale to the Heisei series, pitting an overheating Godzilla against the terrifying creature born from the Oxygen Destroyer. The series wraps up with “Godzilla 2000: Millennium” (April 17-23), marking the beginning of the Millennium era with Godzilla battling a mysterious UFO.
What makes this special
These aren’t just regular screenings. Each film has been given the full 4K digital remaster treatment, making this the first time Japanese audiences can experience these versions theatrically. The restorations complete the entire Heisei VS series catalog, with the organizers now setting their sights on the Millennium series for future screenings.
The screenings will take place at five TOHO Cinemas locations across Japan, including the flagship Hibiya theater in Tokyo. While the presentations will use 4K DCP when possible, some venues may show 2K conversions depending on their equipment. Tickets are priced at 1,300 yen for general admission, with a special “Godzilla Student Discount” bringing the price down to just 500 yen for college students and younger.
