HoYoverse just confirmed that Genshin Impact’s Luna IV version, titled “A Traveler on a Winter’s Night,” is launching worldwide in mid-January, and it’s shaping up to be one of the meatier updates we’ve seen in a while. We’re getting a Nod-Krai map expansion, fresh playable characters, a new Archon Quest, and the return of the Lantern Rite festival with its usual pile of rewards.
New characters join the roster
Leading the charge is Columbina, a 5-star Hydro catalyst user known as the Lunar Maiden. She’s designed as a support powerhouse specifically for Lunar Reactions, which should shake up team compositions pretty significantly.
Then there’s Zibai, a 5-star Geo sword wielder and the White Mare Adeptus, who brings Lunar Crystallize damage to the table, more on that in a second. Rounding out the newcomers is Illuga, a 4-star Geo polearm user and one of the reliable young Lamplighters you’ll be meeting in the expanded regions.
Speaking of Lunar Crystallize, that’s the new Elemental Reaction dropping with Luna IV. It triggers when Geo and Hydro elements meet under specific conditions, dealing Geo damage with critical hit potential. It’s a fresh mechanic that could finally give Geo some love in the reaction department.
Banner-wise, the first half of Luna IV features Columbina and Ineffa in the promotional wishes. The second half switches things up with Zibai and Illuga, plus Neuvillette makes his comeback for those who missed him before.
Nod-Krai expands north
The map’s pushing northward into unexplored Nod-Krai territory, unveiling the Lamplighters’ headquarters and other areas that have been teased but never accessible. Illuga and the Lamplighters play a central role in these new zones, which should tie nicely into the new Archon Quest. That quest? An epic showdown against Dottore that’s been building up for a while now.
The Lantern Rite festival is back with the goods: 1,600 Primogems, 10 Intertwined Fates, a new outfit for Yaoyao, a free 4-star Liyue character, and the Milistra Eden horse-shaped furniture set, among other rewards. Plus, you’ll get more backstory on Zibai during the festival events.
Luna IV looks like it’s balancing fan service with genuinely new content, which is always the sweet spot for live service games. The Lunar Crystallize reaction alone could shift the meta, and that Dottore confrontation has been a long time coming.
