The wait is finally over, folks. After decades of fan speculation and countless memes, Spaceballs 2 has officially wrapped filming, and the news comes straight from the man himself, Josh Gad.
The actor took to Instagram on December 1st to share the exciting milestone with fans worldwide, and let’s just say, the hype is real. “I cannot believe we are here”, Gad wrote in his post. “It really was Ludicrous speed, but that is an official picture wrap on #Spaceballs2”.

A dream, four decades in the making
What makes this project even more special is the story behind it. Three years ago, Gad picked up the phone and called comedy legend Mel Brooks with a pitch for a sequel to the 1987 cult classic. Against all odds, Brooks said yes. For Gad, this wasn’t just another movie, it became what he calls “the greatest creative experience of my entire life.”
The Frozen star didn’t hold back his gratitude, thanking director Josh Greenbaum, Amazon MGM Studios for trusting the team with such an iconic property, and of course, the legendary Mel Brooks himself, who sparked Gad’s passion for comedy when he was just five years old.
The return of a legend
But here’s where things get really exciting. The cast reads like a dream team for any sci-fi comedy fan: Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, Anthony Carrigan, and returning original cast members Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman, and George Wyner. However, the real showstopper? Rick Moranis is back.
Yes, you read that right. The beloved actor, who stepped away from Hollywood decades ago, has come out of his acting hiatus specifically for Spaceballs 2. Gad made sure to give special recognition to “the legend himself… the long missed RICK MORANIS!!!” in his announcement, and honestly, that alone is worth the price of admission.
While we don’t have a release date yet, one thing is crystal clear: this sequel has been crafted with genuine love and respect for the original. With Brooks’ blessing, a stellar cast mixing fresh faces with nostalgic favorites, and a team that clearly understands what made Spaceballs special in the first place, we might just be looking at a worthy follow-up to a comedy masterpiece.
