Lionsgate Studios is gearing up to bring two of its most iconic film franchises into the world of AAA gaming.
During the company’s second quarter fiscal year 2026 earnings call, Adam Fogelson, president of Lionsgate’s motion picture group, revealed that both John Wick and Saw are in the pipeline for major video game adaptations, signaling a significant push into interactive entertainment.
While movie-to-game adaptations have historically been hit-or-miss, Lionsgate seems confident about the potential these properties hold in the gaming space. Fogelson kept details tight but made it clear the studio has big ambitions. “Our opportunities in AAA games and other gaming projects related to John Wick, Saw, and other franchises we’ll be announcing soon are generating increasing interest and opening up new possibilities. We’re on schedule and, overall, we believe a truly significant financial opportunity will materialize in the coming years“, he stated during the investor conference.

When killers and traps meet controllers
Neither franchise is a stranger to gaming, though their previous attempts were modest at best. Saw made its video game debut in 2009 with a survival horror puzzle game developed by Zombie Studios and published by Konami for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Players navigated Jigsaw’s deadly traps in a campaign that required solving puzzles to survive.
A sequel followed in 2010, but both titles remained niche experiences rather than blockbuster hits.
John Wick ventured into gaming more recently with a tactical strategy title from Bithell Games and Big Fan Games, styled after the XCOM series. The game received lukewarm reviews from critics and fans alike, and was eventually pulled from digital storefronts in early 2025. Clearly, there’s untapped potential here, something Lionsgate is banking on with these upcoming AAA projects.
From box office gold to gaming glory
The Saw franchise launched in 2004 as a low-budget horror film and exploded into a sprawling cinematic universe featuring multiple sequels and spin-offs centered around the twisted genius of John Kramer, played by Tobin Bell. The series revolutionized modern horror and remains one of the most profitable franchises in the genre.
John Wick, starring Keanu Reeves, started humbly in 2014 but quickly became a critical and commercial juggernaut. The franchise expanded to include three sequels, a TV prequel series, and a spin-off featuring Ana de Armas.
The world-building, stylized action, and dedicated fanbase make it ripe for an immersive gaming experience that could finally do justice to the Continental’s underground assassin network.
Fogelson didn’t share release windows, studio partners, or whether development will be handled internally or by established gaming powerhouses. What’s certain is that fans of both franchises will likely have to wait a few years before getting their hands on these titles.
But if Lionsgate plays its cards right, both John Wick and Saw could become gaming staples alongside other successful film-to-game adaptations.
