Indie Pokémon-style game EvoCreo hits PC with free Steam demo

EvoCreo is making the jump from mobile to PC on January 7, and if you’ve been craving a classic monster-collecting RPG that channels those old-school Pokémon vibes, this might be worth checking out. The indie title from Ilmfinity Studios originally launched on mobile devices a decade ago, but now it’s getting a proper PC release on Steam, complete with a free demo you can download right now.

170 creatures and multiple evolution paths

The game drops you into Zenith, a region packed with creatures called Creo that you can capture, train, and battle with. Your main quest is finding your missing father, but naturally, things get messy when a shady organization shows up and you’re simultaneously trying to become champion. Standard monster-taming fare, but here’s where it gets interesting: EvoCreo features over 170 creatures, and each one has multiple evolution routes. That means you actually get to decide how your Creo develops instead of following a single predetermined path.

Combat follows the turn-based formula you’d expect, elemental weaknesses, type resistances, tons of moves and abilities. There are dangerous dungeons to explore, secrets scattered everywhere, and the whole single-player campaign clocks in at over 20 hours. Ilmfinity Studios made it clear the entire adventure can be played offline, which is a nice touch considering how many games demand constant internet connections these days.

Classic pixel art meets modern features

Visually, EvoCreo leans hard into traditional pixel art that’ll immediately remind you of those classic 2D Pokémon games from the Game Freak era. It’s deliberate, nostalgic, and honestly fits the whole vibe they’re going for.

The game will also feature online multiplayer where you can battle other players in ranked or casual matches, though that won’t be available at launch. Still, the core experience is all there from day one, capturing, evolving, battling, exploring.

If any of this sounds remotely appealing, grab the free demo on Steam before the January 7 release. It’ll give you a solid taste of what EvoCreo brings to the table without spending a dime.
