Helldivers 2 Cyborgs return with rage and roundhouse kicks

Super Earth's forgotten enemy emerges from Cyberstan with three deadly units and a century of rage against democracy

Arrowhead Game Studios officially confirmed today that the Cyborg Legion returns to Helldivers 2 on February 10 as part of the Machinery of Oppression update, launching simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The announcement came through a chilling video titled “Hello World” in binary code, where the once-defeated faction issued a stark warning to Super Earth: “You enslaved us in the name of freedom. You tried to eradicate us in the name of freedom. We endured. We survived. We are the Cyborg Legion. And now we are free. Leave us and there will be peace. Else be annihilated.”

The return marks a pivotal moment for Helldivers 2, which sold over 20 million copies since launching in February 2024. Unlike the purely mechanical Automatons, Cyborgs are former humans who rebelled against Super Earth’s ideals, adopting socialism and undergoing extreme cybernetic augmentation that rendered them unrecognizable.

In the first Helldivers, they were defeated, enslaved, and confined to their frozen homeworld of Cyberstan. Now they’re back, and according to Super Earth’s propaganda machine, they’re fueled by nothing but rage and socialism.

Meet your new nightmare: Three Cyborg units

Arrowhead revealed three new Cyborg units in a deep-dive video that was repeatedly “hacked” by the Cyborg Legion.

The Agitators serve as field commanders equipped with heavy armor, capable of taking direct command over Automaton units on the battlefield.

The Radicals represent a century of contempt for democracy, using bioenhancements and cybernetics to push their bodies beyond human limits. Armed with heavy shotguns and techno-martial arts, their sole purpose is getting close to Helldivers and making their day a living hell through brutal melee combat, including robo-roundhouse kicks that look legitimately terrifying.

Finally, the Vox Engine serves as the voice of Cyberstan, a mobile fortress bristling with dual heavy laser cannons, a rocket array, and heavy gatling lasers for flanking defense. While patrolling the battlefield, it blares delusional propaganda about Cyborg superiority, making it a priority target for democratic forces.

The invasion of Cyberstan begins

The update drops players into the cities and megafactories of Cyberstan as part of a galactic war event where Helldivers must forge a path through enemy territory.

Super Earth justifies the invasion by claiming the Cyborgs possess weapons of mass destruction threatening democracy, particularly after the Automatons stole blueprints for the planet-destroying Star of Truth laser.

The timing coincides with Helldivers 2’s second anniversary celebration and follows the recent Siege Breakers Warbond release on February 3, which first teased the Cyborgs’ return with ominous audio at the trailer’s end.

A war Super Earth wants you to forget

Leaks dating back to April 2025 hinted at Cyberstan’s return, and the faction’s comeback adds psychological depth to Helldivers 2’s satirical narrative inspired by Starship Troopers.

Unlike the bug-like Terminids, Cyborgs force players to confront enemies who were once Super Earth citizens, transformed by brutal working conditions and oppression into something both human and machine.

These aren’t invaders of Cyberstan; they’re former miners who relied on cybernetic enhancements to survive harsh industrial conditions before necessity turned into extremity. The update raises questions about whether Super Earth has been hiding the truth about what really happened on this forgotten world.

Helldivers can expect the update to deploy at the usual patch time: 2 AM PST / 5 AM EST / 10 AM GMT on February 10. Good thing Super Earth recently equipped its forces with tanks and explosive hammers. Democracy won’t spread itself.
