Plot Coalition, the team behind the acclaimed fan film “For Liberty! A Helldivers Film“, dropped the official announcement today, January 1, 2026 for “Heroes of the Galactic War”, an independent animated anthology series set in the Helldivers 2 universe. The community-funded project promises short episodes every 6 to 8 weeks starting March 2026, and emerges after Sony rejected an official pitch the team presented directly.
From corporate rejection to creative independence
The story behind this series is as epic as the battles against the Terminids. After the premiere of “For Liberty!” on November 28, 2025, a completely volunteer project with zero budget that generated massive hype in the community, team leader Caleb had the guts to pitch an official series directly to Sony and Arrowhead. The response was polite but clear: they rejected the proposal, though they called it “a cool idea.”
Far from giving up, Plot Coalition made the decision to make it happen on their own, but this time with paid artists to ensure sustainability and quality. The overwhelming support from fans toward the anthology format sealed the project’s fate.
Innovative format connected to live game events
This is where things get interesting. Each episode of “Heroes of the Galactic War” will run between 4 and 15 minutes and will be structured in two distinct parts: the first will be a high-fidelity cinematic short focused on a specific in-game War Bond, like the Viper Commandos; the second will be a stylized reactive short responding directly to active Major Orders in Helldivers 2 at that moment.
This means the series will be alive, breathing at the rhythm of what’s happening in the game. It’s dynamic content that evolves with the community. The ultimate goal is to compile all episodes into annual feature-length movies, creating an epic archive of the galactic war.
Funding comes directly from the community through YouTube memberships, starting at $1.99 monthly. Plot Coalition needs to reach 5,000 members before January 31, 2026 to keep the project running.
