GTA V’s Ned Luke swatted so often police know him by name

The voice behind Michael de Santa can’t catch a break. Ned Luke, the 67-year-old actor who brought one of Grand Theft Auto V’s most iconic characters to life, was swatted again on December 23, 2025, during a live stream with Red Dead Redemption’s John Marston voice actor, Rob Wiethoff. The incident marks at least the eighth time Luke has been targeted since late 2023, and the situation has become so routine that responding officers now recognize him immediately.

Around the 37-minute mark of the GTA V online session, two police officers casually walked into Luke’s streaming room. The interaction was brief, almost friendly, a stark contrast to the dangerous reality of swatting. One officer even addressed Luke by name, a detail that speaks volumes about how frequently this has happened.

The actor handled it with remarkable calm, chatting with the officers for a few seconds before continuing his stream as if nothing happened. The broadcast went on for over two hours, proving that whoever called in the fake report failed miserably at disrupting his content.

A dangerous pattern that won’t stop

Swatting isn’t a harmless prank, it’s a federal crime that has resulted in fatalities. The practice involves making false emergency reports to send armed police or SWAT teams to someone’s home, often while they’re streaming live. For Ned Luke, this nightmare became reality after his personal information, including his home address, was leaked online.

The most viral incident occurred in November 2023 during Thanksgiving, forcing Luke to abruptly end his stream when law enforcement stormed his house. He confirmed on social media that it was the sixth time it had happened.

Another case followed later that year. The pattern continued into 2025, with the December 23 incident being the latest in a series that shows no signs of stopping. Despite the severity, Luke and the responding officers have developed an almost routine familiarity with these situations.

Justice finally catches up

On December 27, 2025, Ned Luke shared an image on Instagram showing a judicial letter. According to the document, at least one person involved in the swatting cases is facing federal charges and will appear in court in January 2026.

It’s a small victory for the actor, who has endured years of harassment simply for being the face of a beloved video game character.

GTA V actor Ned Luke faces eighth swatting attack as police know him by name

GTA V may be over a decade old, but its cultural impact keeps actors like Ned Luke, Steven Ogg, and Shawn Fonteno in the public eye. Luke’s close relationship with the gaming community through his live streams has made him a target, but it’s also shown his resilience.

While the swatting might not disappear entirely, the legal consequences facing at least one perpetrator send a clear message: this isn’t a game, and there are real consequences.
