Netflix revealed on the official website for Cosmic Princess Kaguya! (Chou Kaguya-hime!) a second trailer and confirmed the anime film’s worldwide streaming debut for January 22, 2026.
The visually ambitious project directed by Shingo Yamashita promises to be one of the platform’s standout anime releases to kick off the year.
Studio Colorido delivers another visual stunner
Produced by Studio Colorido and Studio Chromato, the film reunites director Shingo Yamashita with a talented crew. Yamashita co-writes the screenplay alongside Saeri Natsuo, while Fumi Katou and Akihiro Nagae handle character design.
The musical score comes from Conisch, setting the tone for what appears to be an emotionally charged sci-fi reimagining of the classic Japanese folktale.
The new trailer showcases the insert song “Moment, Symphony” performed by Yuuko Natsuyoshi with lyrics by 40mP. The preview also confirmed fresh voice cast additions: Miyu Irino (Naruto: Shippuuden) voices Akira Mikado, joined by Yuuma Uchida as Rai Komazawa, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Noi Komazawa, Yoshino Aoyama as Roka Ayatsumugi, Konomi Kohara as Mami Isayama, Fairouz Ai as Okako Chuken, and Natsuki Hanae as Koto Okkoteru.
Expanding beyond the screen
The franchise isn’t stopping at film. A manga adaptation illustrated by Tarо̄ Yoneda launches in Kadokawa’s Comptiq magazine on January 9, giving fans an early taste before the Netflix premiere.
Following that, a novel written by Naruto Kiriyama and illustrated by Asao Urata drops January 30, expanding the Cosmic Princess Kaguya universe across multiple formats in the same month.
Studio Colorido has built a reputation for delivering visually stunning anime films, and Yamashita’s involvement suggests this reimagining of the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter will blend traditional Japanese mythology with bold sci-fi elements.
With Netflix betting big on original anime content, Cosmic Princess Kaguya! positions itself as an early 2026 must-watch.
