ASUS ROG XREAL R1: World’s first 240Hz AR gaming glasses

ASUS Republic of Gamers announced this past January 5 at CES the ROG XREAL R1, the world’s first FHD micro-OLED AR gaming glasses running at 240Hz.

Developed in partnership with XREAL, a global leader in consumer AR eyewear, these glasses transform gaming into a spatial display experience that can be taken anywhere, projecting a virtual 171-inch screen at 13 feet with a 57° field of view covering 95% of focused vision area.

The R1 weighs just 91 grams and comes with the ROG Control Dock, featuring DisplayPort 1.4 and dual HDMI 2.0 ports for seamless switching between PC and consoles.

For ROG Ally users, the experience gets even better with direct USB-C connection offering plug-and-play functionality with no setup required, maintaining full touchscreen control on the handheld while gaming on a massive virtual display.

This marks ROG’s latest push in display innovation, extending their portfolio from compact 15-inch portable screens to massive 65-inch gaming monitors, and now into wearable spatial displays.

Desktop power in portable form

The glasses integrate into the ROG ecosystem with zero friction. The Control Dock handles connectivity for traditional gaming setups, allowing gamers to switch between multiple sources with a single click, perfect for those running multi-platform setups with a gaming PC and consoles side by side.

The Ally connection delivers instant battlefield immersion through a single cable, eliminating the need for external monitors or TV setups while traveling or gaming away from home.

Users can adjust the virtual screen’s size and distance on the fly thanks to the integrated X1 spatial coprocessing chip, and the 3 degrees of freedom (3DoF) Anchor Mode lets players position the display anywhere in physical space or centered on themselves.

This flexibility means the screen can be locked to a wall, floating in mid-air, or following your head movements depending on preference and game type.

Visual performance that matters

Running at 1920 x 1080 with 240Hz refresh rate and 3ms motion-to-photon latency, the R1 delivers buttery smooth visuals without motion blur or judder, critical specs for competitive gaming and fast-paced shooters.

The electrochromic lens technology automatically adjusts transparency based on lighting conditions, tinting when looking at the anchored screen and clearing when looking away, making them practical for use in any environment from bright daylight to dim rooms without manual adjustments.

Sound by Bose technology rounds out the package with immersive spatial audio, rendering everything from subtle footsteps to distant explosions with realistic clarity and precision, giving players enhanced awareness to feel and react to action around them.

The three-dimensional soundstage creates directional audio cues that complement the visual experience without requiring separate headphones.

The ROG XREAL R1 redefines large-format gaming by bringing ROG’s visual performance standards into a wearable spatial display, making giant-screen gaming possible anywhere—from cramped dorm rooms to cross-country flights.
